Rahu Kalam is considered to be the worst and inauspicious time of the day. During this inauspicious time, you should not do any auspicious and important work.

You must avoid signing a contract, traveling, interviews, investments, buying a vehicle or home, calling someone etc. during Rahu Kaal

During the time between The Sunrise and Sunset a small stretch of 90 minutes is dedicated to Rahu and this part of the day is called Rahu Kaal which considered inauspicious. Rahu is one of the nine planets as per the Vedic astrology, it is believed to have malefic effects..Rahu Kaal is period of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes in everyday when the bad effect of the shadow planet Rahu comes into effect.

Rahu is considered to be a negative/evil planet as per the vedic astrology. Rahu kaal is considered to be one of the most inauspicious periods to start any kind od new venture, starting a new journey/travel, or anything auspicious as it is believed that any new task which is undertaken during the period of Rahu Kaal leads to loss, misfortune, and even failure. The time duration of this period of Rahu Kaal depends on the week days and the timing of the Sunrise & Sunset. This is one of the reasons why the timing of Rahu Kaal differs from day to day across the globe. This period of Rahu Kaal can be calculated by, first, calculating the time period between Sunrise and Sunset and then this time period is further divided into 8 equal time segments. One of these eight-time segments is called the Rahu Kaal. It is believed that during this period Rahu covers a person’s mind causing it to go blind, and so the human mind doesn’t think clearly during this period.

The panchangs denotes the timing of Rahu kaal. The calculation of Rahukalam -The period between Sunrise and the Sunset is divided into 8 equal parts. If a day is considered of 12 hours, its one eighth parts would be equal to 1hr 30 minutes. The first such part of the day, commencing from the Sunriseis considered unblemished. If one is considers that Sun rises at 6 am, the time upto next 1:30 hrs is not supposed to have anuy affliction. Thereafter, Rahukaal become effective at different points of time on different days. The order/ sequence used to remember for Rahu kaal is- Monday, Saturn, Friday, Wednesday, Thursday and Tuesday. On Monday, the first day 2/8 part of the day, second day on Saturday is 3/8 part, 4th,5th,6th, 7th and 8th parts of the day on Friday, Wednesday, Thursday, Tuesday and Sunday are considered as Rahukaalam.
